Gérard Lusteau, eclectic artist and traveler.

The swing of polo players or golfers, the delicate curves of women in Indian ink, the aquatic vibrations of swimming pools... The diversity of Gérard Lusteau's work bears witness to his talent and his ability to reinvent himself.

All these series have in common that they awaken in us a certain aesthetic feeling. When we observe the work of Gérard Lusteau, the first attention is probably drawn to the quality of the line, the precision of the drawing and the accuracy of the composition.

But beyond the aesthetic intention, there is a clear artistic approach, that of representing the singular detail which will best reveal the whole of which it is a constituent.

Our memory and our emotions are, I think, first anchored in details, very elementary things. I still have a fairly clear memory of the mosaic of a kitchen tile, the blues of a cupboard door too and it is precisely these little things that make me find the setting of the house of my childhood. They are like keys that open us to a more global perception. For my part, art is also that, remarkable particles, catalysts that contribute to a better feeling of the whole.

This original approach, specific to Gérard Lusteau, results in works which, ultimately, also tell stories, moments of life, again perhaps remarkable moments.

I like to think that everyone is led to "redraw" their own stories on my paintings. A bit like songs where everyone, in the end, sticks their own existence. I hope that my paintings make everyone tell their own story internally, more than they say themselves literally!

Gérard Lusteau's details become the "starting points" of the viewer's imagination, inviting us to re-create the work.

"Creation _ Recreation _ Re-creation" sounds a bit like a slogan but it translates the meaning of my work quite well. I hope my creations are a bit recreational, but there is an outcome in putting the viewer in a position of personal re-creation. Unlike text explanations at school where the author's intention is imposed on us, here, each person's truth becomes legitimate. My paintings are somewhat unfinished: finish them yourselves!

Once the concept is established, Gérard Lusteau's works can, paradoxically, dispense with conceptual discourse...

Gérard Lusteau is more than half a century of lines, colors and a style marked by precise figuration and narration giving free rein to the imagination. Behind this apparent ease, there is an authentic sensitivity to drawing, a real long-term work that is not without reference to classical schools. Thus, the sense of detail is also felt in the concern to perfect the technique and the processes.
